What you will find out

Your answers point to one of these five results.

01

Finding your problem

You're early. That's not a bad thing. It means you haven't wasted months building the wrong thing yet. Your job right now isn't to build. It's to find a problem worth solving and a person worth solving it for. The trap in this phase is mistaking research for progress. Reading articles, watching videos, and browsing Reddit feels productive but generates zero signal. Only real conversations with real people count.

02

Validating

You have a direction, but you're still guessing about some important things. Your job right now is to get enough real signal from real people that your next move is obvious. The trap in this phase is treating positive feedback as validation. Friends saying "cool idea" is not signal. Someone describing the pain unprompted, showing you their ugly workaround, or asking when they can buy it. That's signal.

03

Building your offer

You have signal. People have a real problem. Now your job is to turn what you've learned into something you can actually sell. Not a perfect product. A clear offer with a clear outcome at a clear price. The trap in this phase is over-engineering your MVP. You're building the product you wish existed instead of the one your customers will pay for today. Sequence beats sophistication.

04

Getting traction

You have something that works. A few people are paying. Now your job is to build a system that puts you in front of more of the right people, consistently. Not virality. Not a big launch. A repeatable path to your next 10 customers. The trap in this phase is chasing vanity metrics. Followers, likes, and traffic feel like progress. Revenue and conversations are the only metrics that matter right now.

05

Scaling what works

You have paying customers and a channel that works. Now your job is to make the flywheel spin faster without burning out. Systematize what's working. Cut what isn't. Invest in the things that compound. The trap in this phase is adding complexity instead of depth. New features, new tiers, new markets all feel like growth. But the fastest path to more revenue is usually doing the thing that already works, better and more often.

Peter Gustafson

Solo Founder Coach

I spent 10+ years in B2B SaaS across Customer Success, Product Management, Solutions Engineering, and Operations, from startups to enterprise. Along the way I led a roughly $3M ARR book as a Customer Success leader and shipped digital products, and every role taught me the same things about how businesses grow: listen to customers, build what people want, and sell without being pushy.
